Live In The Gangway Monday's and Krunkdafied Tuesday's Host Ms. Ahdedott is Here

What's Up Everybody,

This is Ahdedott checking in on the KJLU alumini blog. I was an on-air announcer at KJLU since Fall 2001. I started off on Monday Nights with my own show "Live in the Gangway with Ahdedott", and later moved to "Krunkdafied Tuesdays" on Tuesday Nights. My targeted audience was more-so the talented artists and listeners who had longed to hear good music with substance. As a hip-hop artist I had a desire to expose the unknown talent that Mid-Missouri had to offer. I must say working in Public Service via Radio was and is the best position I've ever worked. The Love and Support the community gives is undeniable. As of today, I'm still searching to pursue a career in Broadcast Media. It has been a long road to follow, after working in the college radio field for so long. The response is usually "you"ll have to intern with our station and must currently be enrolled in college to do so." Well, there goes the challenge, being that I graduated in December 2004.I'm convinced that the way it all works out is on a who-you-know basis. With my B.S. Degree in Journalism and my persistance, I'm sure I will be the next staff member of a commercial station in St. Louis. This is my story. Feel free to pass on any leads to any genre of radio stations in St. Louis.

For the latest updates on Ahdedott's Muzik check me out at www.myspace.com/ahdedottmuzik

Also: I will like to give a shot out to my babygirl Jayda, and Jayda's Dad..who's also LU alumni.

-I'm more than Ahdedott, I'm Jayda's Mom

Thank You to all the staff members and managers of KJLU who maintains the stations daily operations, and who remains the reason we will forever be the Best Black College Radio Station every year:)

Melanie L. Palmer

Hello All,

Leslie I finally found a moment o sit down a type a little sumthin' sumthin' for you and others to catch you up on everything going on with me.

Let's see, while I was at the much beloved KJLU where I received my wonderful beginnings to what is now a 12 year career/journey for me, I was known to the "Public Radio Voice of Lincoln University & Mid-Missouri" as Kraze'11 bringing you your Afternoon Jazz and Pillow Talk, as well as Latrice Hudson who brought you your afternoon news.

I reflect back on my days at LU often, and miss my days/nights on the hill hanging out with my turntable sista - Hot Coffee, or in the news room with the world's greatest News Director - Leslie Taylor. Boy were those the days, nights/mornings hyped up on pizza, pepsi, and twizzlers to bring you Pillow Talk was the greatest!!! Oh and I can't forget co-hosting the Capital City Jazzfest with Hot Coffee - Misty Turner-Young!!! Boy was that a blast as we dawn the stage in the middle of summer in LONG BLACK DRESSES!!!

Let's see, after graduating and leaving LU I found my way to back to Chicago, and a new career in a totally different area than Broadcast Journalism - TEACHING. Yes, I challenged myself and tried to broaden the minds of the next generation for 3 years as an elementary school teacher at Paul Revere Elementary School where I taught Special Ed, Sixth Grade, and Middle School Journalism, as well as being the Editor-in-Chief of The Voice of Paul Revere School Newspaper. Nonetheless, while teaching I did find my way back to my routes in radio and tv. I know, I love to work or something. While teaching at Revere I pulled a weekend shift for Crawford Broadcasting (Power 92FM, WYCA 106.3FM, WYBA 102.3FM) as a Producer/Director and Board Operator. Through this experience continued to broaden my knowledge of radio. I also produced a video tv show on local cable access CAN TV. Still looking for a new challenge, I wrote for my church's monthly newspaper. Wait, it gets better! I finally found a new job in radio at Chicago Public Radio (WBEZ) in 2002, and that is where I have been for the past 5 years. I still teach off and on, and I'm working on my Masters in Elementary Education.

Through all of that I did find time to have a life, and now have a beautiful 2 year old daughter named Taylor Michelle Russell. Taylor is truly the sunshine of my life and my greatest joy!! So I guess you can say that I've been busy since my days at KJLU and LU. I have fond memories of both everyday and often find myself comparing WBEZ to KJLU.

I can't forget my days of pledging the world's greatest sorority - DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC., Alpha Theta Chapter Sp'93 -D.S. Red Awakening from where I received my line name which became my radio name - KRAZE' 11!!

Thanks guys/gals (Mike, David, Leslie, Sharif, Dan the Hitman, Misty, Torrez, Kent, and the rest of the crew) for all the wonderful memories and life lessons!!!!

I'll have to post pictures later....so until then be blessed!!!

Hello, everybody. It's Gloria Elena. After much prodding from Leslie, I've decided to add myself to the list. I worked side by side with Leslie for awhile as her News Assistant. After that, my husband and I moved to Springfield, MO, where I worked for the best station in the market, KTTS. I worked in the news department, and also did traffic, a weekly talk show, and was the fill in host on a morning talk show on our NewsTalk station. That was the toughest job I ever had, but it taught me a lot about the business. When I had to move again, it was sad, but I was able to stay with the same company. I'm now in Tulsa, OK, working at KFAQ. Again, I'm a reporter and anchor and really enjoy my job and all the people I work with. But I still miss everyone at KJLU!

On a personal note, my husband and I are finally starting a family after eight years together. Our first child (we're pretty sure it's going to be a girl) is due December 27th. A Christmas baby! We're really excited about that and decorating the nursery.

Hi there,
After much ado from Ms. Cross I have finally arrived. Now what can I say. Well first, I graduated from Lincoln in 2005 with a degree in Journalism. I currently work in Jefferson City as the Editor for the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents. My job is challenging on many levels, but I always try not to feed into any negativity and just take one day at a time.

Attending Lincoln has become a treasured memory for me - dancing with Mrs. Ferguson, singing in LUVE (you would think music was my major :). But I also met my husband there and now I have a charming son. He's so friendly and outgoing... I can't figure out where he got it from... I'm extremely into the arts from books to plays to figurines and all types of music. I guess I’m a bit of an old soul (at 25). Hopefully someday I’ll be able to work in a field along those lines. For now I’m a wife and mother, and simply enjoying life’s offerings - waiting anxiously on whatever the future might bring!

Misty Turner Young

What's up people?!? It's me... Misty Turner AKA Robin Turner AKA Hot Coffee. What have I been up to since my days at KJLU? I can't believe it's been... well I won't say how long it's been.. but it wasn't last week. Since I graduated I have held several different jobs in television news, newswire services, promotions and marketing. Today, I am back at Lincoln University as the Director of Public Information and University Affairs. There is a Mr. Coffee... well actually he's Mr. Young, who I married in 2004. Together we have a beautiful baby girl who is legally named Sierra, but is better known as Miss Attitude. As an added bonus to finding my husband, I also have another beautiful girl in my life, a stepdaughter named Rayonna. She's a pre-teen, so yes... my house is full of attitude right now. A baby, a tween and a man. Argh. Other than family and work, life is pretty quiet for me. I do miss my Tuesday night shows. I even miss being at the station before the sun even thought about coming up. That had to be because of all the great people who were there. Big hellos to everyone who was at KJLU during my time there. Names popping in my head right now are of course Leslie(News Director Extraordinaire), Mike, Dan, my partner in crimeKraze' 11, Torrez, Tony Knight, B-Love, Jessica, Allyson, Sable... shoot, I'm forgetting names so I'm going to stop here. Anyway, miss you all, even if I can't remember your name right now. Feel free to email me. I love email. It makes me smile. mmt808@aol.com.

Here are some photos, including some of my "real live daughter who does exist".

Is it vain to show a picture of myself before my family? Probably so, but you don't know those people. LOL.

Jessica Machetta

AKA Jessica Finn. After working in Jeff City radio for a while, the Missouri Senate for a while, and being a stay-at-home mom for a while, I'm now in newspaper. I'm the deputy editor for the Florida Keys Keynoter -- www.keynoter.com -- and manage business news, our Keynoter TV show, and L'Attitudes, our arts and entertainment guide where I write a weekly column -- www.keynoter.com/lattitudes. We're still working to get our radio news going. Did it for a bit with Clear Channel stations here, but then they got sold. Onto the next best thing. Send me an e-mail at jmachetta@gmail.com. PS, radio here sucks. You can get Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffet or Jimmy Buffett. At least I can get NPR. Thank god for that. You can also check out my blog at http://machetta.blogspot.com. I miss that little station on the hill and everyone who worked there.
